New Moon January 2021 - Moon Madness or Welcome Change Within?

Patricia Rogers, Astrology Horoscope Queen • Jan 11, 2021

Oh the times they are a changin'

New Moon in Capricorn - January 12 - 13, 2021

Depending on where you reside, the New Moon in Capricorn hits on January 12 or 13, beginning a cycle that has as much to do with endings as it does with starting something new!

So much has happened since the last New Moon in Capricorn (Dec. 26, 2019), and we recognize that the world has drastically changed, and more drastic changes are at our doorstep! The turmoil we witnessed since early 2020 increases in intensity and the timing for planetary line-ups associated with major upheavals, including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other breaking news, coincides with already scheduled major global events, including the Presidential Inauguration on January 20, 2021!

New Moons occur when both the Sun and Moon occupy the same sign in the zodiac - usually once a month. As the Sun takes one year to travel all 12 signs (approximately 4.3 weeks per sign), each New Moon is in a different astrological sign each month and, together, they highlight the energies of that sign.

Each New Moon activates your natal chart where you find that particular sign, as well as which of the 12 Houses where the sign resides. In other words, if you have Capricorn in the 3rd House, the New Moon in January would focus on 3rd House activities, that could include communication, learning, short-distance travel, neighbors and siblings.

This New Moon can be a tremendous opportunity for change within you to let go of past anger, resentments and need to control because of ego and hurt feelings.  Don’t be surprised if triggers occur to bring back memories, or actual re-runs of old patterns surface – giving you a clear vision of how they will play out if you repeat the same responses. What is not so clear, is the new reality created when you use new (or little used) tools you have available. This is where intentions and actions come into play – big time!

Imagine the New Moon in Capricorn has you standing on top of a huge mountain you have climbed to achieve success, satisfaction and a legacy to leave behind. Each of us has “mastered” a certain level, bringing a new perspective that carries with it a set of skills and experience to put them to new use. That is Capricorn energy!

Astrologers have been watching closely for quite some time the current movements of planets that usually take longer to wield their powerful influence (Pluto, Uranus and Neptune), and how they are interacting with the faster moving “personality planets” of Mercury, Mars, and Venus to see how they interplay with the Sun and Moon to highlight the signs and houses they occupy at any given day and time.

January and February promise to be a bumpy ride and can trigger fears that the world is going to hell in a hand basket!

Astrologers point to the many square aspects happening now between the fiery planet Mars, joining the revolutionary Uranus in  the peace-loving sign of Taurus, and how they are agitated and agitating the majority of other planets positioned in Capricorn and Aquarius.  This challenging position is between the old order and new order and the process to transform into a new paradigm. Bob Dylan’s lyrics “Oh the times they are a changing’ ’” could not be more true than today!

Globally, the chaos is playing out to breakdown the old order of our systems, including government, and how it affects our daily lives. The process is messy but effective to breakthrough with innovative thinking to solve problems – including outdated traditions and methods that were not serving the good of the whole. We are moving into a new evolution that the planets indicate is coming.

The New Moon in Capricorn is an excellent time to set intentions for yourself and a road map to achieve your goals in a practical way. Capricorn energy is serious, disciplined and loves structure. In addition, Capricorn’s ruler (Saturn) shows where we are fearful about leaving comfort zones and where we have to confront those fears in order to grow and achieve success.  We are being challenged now to do just that!

The New Moon on January 12, 2021 is the first of the new year AND first since the Great Conjunction on December 21, 2020 where Saturn and Jupiter joined in epic fashion to signal many cycles within cycles that help us question our fundamental beliefs and pursuits in life that we use to achieve happiness and fulfillment. If ever there was a time to know where Jupiter and Saturn and the sign of Aquarius falls in your natal chart – it’s now!

In 2021 - that which holds you back (Saturn) and that which sets you free (Jupiter) are positioned together in the sign of Aquarius – representing freedom and individuality. By recognizing where and how you hold yourself back (Saturn in your chart) and where and how you want to be free and true to your own values (Jupiter) you will find “fertile hot spots” that you can activate at any time – but especially during a New Moon phase!

Saturn and Jupiter conjunction in Aquarius during the New Moon on January 12-13 reacts kindly to our emotions to be open to change and asking for insight and help to evolve on many levels, including physical, mental, and spiritual. We can consciously choose to let go of old feelings that keep us locked in the past, and intentionally focus our energies to open our hearts and minds to see our self, our world and others in a new light.

6 Tips for New Moon Meditations or Rituals to Activate Change Within

2.      Write down your intentions for the next 4 weeks

3.      Take one or more steps to achieving one or more of your goals

4.      Tell someone about your new intention

5.      Do something physical to activate the intention (lite candle, play music, etc.)

6.      Spend time outdoors to “sync-up” with Mother Nature
